Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Ten family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, along with four of his close aides, were killed in precision airstrikes carried out by the Indian Armed Forces in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, as part of Operation Sindoor. The operation was launched in retaliation to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives.
Among those killed were Azhar's elder sister, her husband, a nephew and his wife, a niece, and five children from the family. A statement issued by the JeM confirmed these deaths and mentioned that the funeral was scheduled at 4 PM in Bahawalpur. The airstrike also killed four of Azhar’s aides, including one close aide and his mother, and two other associates. The Indian Air Force targeted the Markaz Subhan Allah complex, the JeM's headquarters and training facility in Bahawalpur.
The Indian Armed Forces confirmed that nine terror targets were struck—four in Pakistan (Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sialkot) and five in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Special precision munitions were used in a coordinated strike executed around 1:05 AM on Tuesday. The Subhan Allah complex, spread across 18 acres and also known as the Usman-o-Ali campus, was used for recruitment, fundraising, training, and indoctrination. Another major target was the Masjid wa Markaz Taiba in Muridke, a known JeM stronghold.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofia Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh provided details of the operation. "Markaz Subhan Allah, Bhawanpur, is located 100 kilometers away from the International Boundary. It was the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed. It was also a center for recruitment, training, and indoctrination," said Colonel Qureshi. She added that "no military base was targeted, and there have been no reports of any civilian casualties so far."
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh stated that nine terror camps were successfully destroyed as part of Operation Sindoor. The Indian government described the response as “measured, non-escalatory, proportional, and responsible.” The operation specifically targeted facilities linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen, aiming to neutralise cross-border terror infrastructure. Approximately 70 to 80 terrorists were reported killed across all targeted locations.
